Clarks Mill - Trowbridge

Clarks Mill, a stunning grade 2 listed 1850s cotton Mill located in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, was purchased by an investor in 2021. With our appointment as the main contractor for the conversion from an abandoned commercial building to a high-end residential apartment block, we took on the challenge of coordinating and managing the specialist design consultants for the project, as well as delivering the turnkey construction works package.

Our site works commenced in September 2021 and ran for a duration of 18 months, during which time we completely stripped the building back to its shell and carried out a comprehensive remedial works package to the buildings aging and dilapidated superstructure in preparation for its conversion into residential units. Our remedial works package included the temporary propping of all internal floors, removal of the existing steel columns and replacement with larger gage modern steel frame, replacement of internal lintels, and the installation of a large steel ring beam within the parapet to receive the new penthouse duplex floor.

We then commenced the refurbishment package, which included the installation of the new penthouse top floor, bespoke aluminium windows, and upgraded thermal elements to achieve the required EPC and SAP status. We designed and installed air source heat pump heating and hot water, along with a full wet underfloor heating system, ensuring the development boasted a state-of-the-art and sustainable M&E package.

In addition, we installed bespoke Porcelanosa kitchens and bathrooms to all units, providing a stunning finish and the wow factor that was key to the design brief to attract purchasers from neighbouring Bath and Bradford on Avon. The project remains the best example of this type of refurbishment and conversion in the area, and the feedback received has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are proud to have delivered this project to the highest standard and look forward to continuing to exceed expectations in all our future projects.
